or stripe
Sire: EA Dr. Chaboom - 32"
- black - NLP
Dam: EA Milan 29 1/2", gray

per Pat Scanlan
Freedom is beautiful, solid black, and
small. He is very correct, with a good bite, straight topline, and
nice legs. We are very happy with him as a herd sire. We have
Chaboom bloodlines as well as Salem bloodlines. We think this gives a nice balance to our herd.
Sold
We are thrilled that
Freedom is now making his home in TX as one of Marion & Jean's "Darlin'
Donkeys". I hope they are as happy with his foals as we have been.

Foal Coat: very dark brown
Sire: H.R. Freedom, 29-1/2", black, nlp
Dam: Short ASSets Millicent (AKA Millie),
32-7/8", dark brown
This little guy was born on a very, very hot night.
Mom didn't want us near him. She is always very protective of her babies.
Took him a while to warm up to us as he took the que from mom. He has turned
into a very nice little jack. He has good conformation, bite, and legs.
Flash now makes his home with Penny Harlan in Bunceton, MO. He has a mature
jennet for a companion and they will make a beautiful foal when he's old
enough. |

Foal Coat: black
Sire: H.R. Freedom, 29-1/2" black, nlp
Dam: H.R. Michelle, 33-1/2", dark brown
First-time mom, Michelle is a super mother. She didn't
need any help showing this baby where to get milk, etc. It all came
automatically for her. Cricket is a beautiful jennet and is a joy to have
around. I think I see a hint of a stripe, so she may be brown. She has all
the attributes to make a nice brood jenny or show jenny.
Sold
Cricket has been sold to Dolly and Bob Caverly. They have also purchased
H.R. Wishbone. These two donkeys will have a wonderful home.
|

black, light points
Dam: SWH Curly Sue, 32", brown

born at 8 p.m. the night before Thanksgiving. We think his name is very
appropriate. He is a great little jack, super-friendly, good build, good
bite, etc. Check him out on the for sale page.
Sold
Wishbone will be going to Mountain Grove, MO along with Cricket to live with
Dolly and Bob Caverly.

H.R. Spook |
|
 |
|
Date of Birth: 10/31/2009
17 3/4" at birth - 27" 12/12/2010
Foal Coat: black
Sire:
H.R. Freedom, 29-1/2", black, nlp
Dam:
Gearhardt A.J. Arial, 33", spot
Our neighbor called us at 7:30
a.m. Halloween to let us know our spotted donkey had a baby and he was
trying to get up. We immediately ran to him. We hadn't even suspected Arial
was due, as her bag had not filled! We prayed all would be well. Better than
that....he was totally healthy, eager to get to his feet and take on the
world! Mom had milk, but we supplemented additional colostrum because her
bag always felt "drained". Spook is thriving and as perfect as can be. We've
never had a baby this small and continually laugh as he goes under mom's
belly. This is Arial's first baby and she is a super mom. Spook is super
friendly. I don't think he'll stay black, as I think I see a hint of a
stripe. He will make a very nice herdsire: teeth, legs, conformation, are
all great. Spook is still the
smallest donkey born at Horseshoe Ranch.
He now resides in Mountain Grove with
Apollo at the home of Kyra and Mike Caverly.

H.R. Cracker Jack |
|

|
|
23-1/2" at 11 days old
Foal Coat: Spot
Sire: H.R. Desi, black,
33-1/2"
Dam: Little Friends Enchilada,
spot
Cracker Jack was named by Judy Pearson, his new owner.
He will go to Arkansas with her the end of December. He will be their new
herdsire. Cracker Jack is the first foal of Little Friends Enchilada and she
sure loves her boy. It's going to be a tough separation for her, though I
don't think he will even care! Cracker Jack has good conformation, etc. and
will be a very nice herdsire in time. Don't you just love his name?
|
|
Rescue Jacks - no papers |
|
    |
|
They must go together since they have been together since birth. We got
them as part of a herd that had been neglected. No abuse, just neglected
due to the age and failing health of the owners. All of the others were
bought by Barb Arthurs and she is really enjoying them. Some were very
timid and they are not any more.
The Gray jack is now super-friendly; the brown one is not there yet. I
believe with a lot of attention and work, the brown jack will be friendly
as well. We are not making money on these boys; just trying to rcoup our
expenses. They are up do date on worming, shots, hoof trims.
Brown Jack is about 3 years old and 36-3/4" tall -
$225
Gray Jack is about 4 years old and is 37-1/2" tall -
$225 These boys are now
named Ben and Jerry, after their new owner's favorite ice cream! Dave
Rosenow of Villa Ridge, MO has given these boys a great home. They were
deliverd in June, 2010, and Dave reports they are doing very well. He
gives them love and a lot of attention and Ben and Jerry appreciate him.
We couldn't be happier with the fate of these sweet donkeys.

H.R. (new owners will name) and H.R. Katrina |
|
 |
|
Date of birth: 05/16/2010
Foal coat: steel gray
Sire: H.R. Salem, 33" - black
- NLP - no cross or stripe
Dam: H.R. Katrina, gray, 30"
tall
This little guy was born at 10:45 p.m. on Mothers' Day and first-time mom,
Katrina, is a super mom. He and Katrina have been sold and will be going to
their new home in late June or early July.
Sold
They will live at
Circle K Performance Horses in Baldwin City, KS with Beverly King. Sounds
like they will have a great home. Bev wanted miniature donkeys for their
younger visitors to enjoy and these two will certainly enjoy the attention.
Thanks, Bev.

H.R. Twister |

Picture taken

|
Date of Birth:
05/29/2008
20" at birth
Foal Coat: black
Sire: H.R. Freedom,
29-1/2" black, nlp, no cross or stripe
Dam: McMillan's Afrodite,
34", very dark brown, light points
Twister is an absolute joy! He continually makes us smile at his antics.
He has good teeth, and is proportioned just right! Such a very nice little
guy.
Twister had been sold along with Hurricane, but the people never finalized
the deal. If we could possibly use another herd sire (we can't) we would
definitely keep Twister. He is still black with no cross/stripe at age 15
months. On 5/31/09 (15 months) he measured 31". Since we really need to sell
him we have priced him accordingly. At this price, this black jack is a
steal.
Sold
Twister now lives
with Eva Thurmond in Sullivan, MO. Eva had gotten a little jack who needed a
buddy and Twister nicely fits the bill. |

Gray Mom and Baby
RESCUE DONKEY and her jack foal. This young jennet was part of six donkeys
we rescued September, 2008. She had this pretty little jack on 8/16/09. Mom
is 34-1/2" and foal is 26" on 8/30/09. They do not have papers and the daddy
is unknown. He is one of three jacks we rescued at the same time; one gray,
one brown, one spot. They will all be listed for sale very soon, as well as
two other jennets. Their hooves are now normal and they are up to date on
shots and worming. These donkeys were absolutely not mistreated; just a bit
neglected due to the age and failing health of the owner. We are just trying
to recoup our expenses when we sell this group of donkeys. This gray jennet
and her jack foal are very, very friendly and deserve a great home.
Sold
We
are absolutely thilled that these two donkeys along with Polka Dottie and
Gray mom's yearling have a great home with Barb and Andy Arthurs in West
Plains, MO. Barb has been spending a lot of time with them and they have all
come around and are super friendly. This is a testament to what can happen
with donkeys that have had very little human interaction and what a little
attention can do. Congratulations for a job well done, Barb!

Bobbi is a very square and beautiful bundle of energy. Teeth are
very good.
Sold

surprise Valentine's present to Lori Lorenz from her husband, Bruce. Bobbi

Sire:
H.R. Freedom, 29-1/2" black,
nlp, no cross or stripe
Dam: EA
Santa Maria, 31-1/2" gray
The first breeding of
Santa Maria and Freedom produced this little jack. Hurricane is built like
a tank! Solid and square. They don't come any better than this one. Short
canon bone, too, which means he will stay small. He will be a wonderful
herdsire. Hurricane is for sale.
Hurricane had been sold along with
Twister, but the people never finalized the deal. On 5/31/09 (15 months
old), he is only 29" tall. Although he is extremely nice, we need to sell
him, and have priced him accordingly.
Sold
Hurricane will be the
herdsire at Lottabrier Farm in Belleview, MO. Lori Lorenz bought Starlands
Donna from us in 2006 and has since used Salem and Desi to breed to her
jennets. Now Lori will have her own herdsire. Thank you, Lori. |

RESCUE DONKEY: We named him "Patches". He is one of six donkeys we rescued
September, 2008. We had him gelded several months ago. Patches is about 38"
tall and is a super-friendly guy. We think he's very handsome. His hooves
are now normal and he is up to date on shots and worming. We are just trying
to recoup our expenses when we sell these donkeys. He will make a great pet.
Patches is extremely friendly and wants to please
Sold

Foal Coat: reddish-brown
Sire: H.R. Freedom, 29 1/2", black -
nlp - no cross or stripe
Dam: Ma & Pa's Libby - 33" dark gray &
white spotted
We were surprised that
Libby didn't have a spot foal! This is the first time on our ranch that a spot
jennet did not have a spot foal. However, we are not at all disappointed with
this little guy. Pepper doesn't know any strangers. He's everyone's best friend.
Pepper is always happy and eager for hugs.
Sold
Going to Fredericktown,
MO with his little buddy, H.R. Hogan. Elizabeth Adams, is looking forward to
enjoying these two little bundles of love. Thanks, Liz.

any fanfare. He immediately decided to be the most friendly donkey around and
his mom is so relaxed, she didn't mind him visiting with everyone the day after
his birth. He is "the leader of the pack" and gets the whole group of babies
running and kicking up their heels.

Quincy |
|
 |
|
Date of Birth: 04/14/2009
Foal Coat: spot
Sire: see below
Dam: Polka Dottie, spot
In September 2008, we rescued 6 donkeys (see our
blog). We thought the female spot was pregnant and we were right. Polka Dottie
gave birth at 5:30 in the afternoon to this georgeous little guy. However, she
wanted nothing to do with him. Every time he tried to nurse, she kicked him. We
hobbled her and tried again; but he was too afraid to try. After trying for
several hours, we gave his colostrum (from our freezer) and then began to feed
him Mare's Match foal milk replacer. He drinks from a bowl. Unfortunately, he
follows us around and thinks we are his mommy. We are trying to find a mature
jennet to accept him, so he has a protector and teacher. Quincy is nicely put
together and his bite is right on. He is as sweet as they come. Quincy will be
for sale to a very special family.
Update: Quincy is
now drinking 3-4 cups of Mare’s Match from a bowl every 4-6 hours. He is eating
grass and grain also. Whomever buys this little guy needs to understand he needs
to be fed on a regular schedule. Quincy also needs to be with other donkeys who
will, hopefully, interact with him. He should also be gelded when he is old
enough. Quincy cannot be registered as his parents are “rescues”. His mom is
approximately 38” and his father is between 36-38”. His father is one of three:
gray, brown, or spot. See our blog for details. He follows us everywhere, but
recently, prefers to stay with the group of donkeys after we feed him, rather
than following us back to the gate. This is good: he needs to know he is a
donkey! We will be sure he goes to a very good home where he will receive the
care/love he so deserves.
Sold to Travis & Cheryl

29-1/2” Gray dun (d.o.b. 7/4/98)
418 ancestors on file per Pat Scanlan
Milan is a very small and compact jenny. She is the dam
of three small black jacks: EA Dr. Donovan, H.R. Freedom, and H.R. Dillon.
Milan has always needed a lot of help delivering foals due to her small size.
In May, 2006, her foal was in the wrong position, and could not be successfully
delivered. She should not be bred again, and we have
made the difficult decision to sell her to a non-breeding farm. She has a very
sweet and loving personality and will make the perfect pet.
Sold
We are so
happy that Sunny and Milan are making their new home together in Potosi, MO.
David & Ella Bishop are giving them a wonderful home where they will spend
their lives being spoiled. I must
admit, however, these two leaving left more than a few tears in our eyes.
We will really miss these wonderful girls."

Ditto, a very correct and handsome 31" tall dark brown jack. We had been
eager to see Sunny's first foal, but in November, 2005, the vet determined
that her birth canal is too small to accommodate the successful delivery of
a foal. Therefore, we are selling her as a pet,
to a non-breeding farm. We have had Sunny since she was six months old.
She is a very sweet and loving donkey and will make the perfect pet.

Frisco certainly is his sire's son.
Frisco has a nice round rear, nice teeth, top line, and straight legs.

We are still trying to figure out what
color this little guy will be. We may not know until next summer.
He was born while I was at the grocery store and my husband was in St.
Louis. We are not used to our babies born during the daylight hours,
so he surprised us! Daryl has long hair and it is shiny and very
soft. Hard to describe, but very different texture than our other
five babies born in the last few weeks. Daryl is an absolute love
and as soon as he sees us he comes running for kisses, which we happily
give. Daryl is correct: nice solid build and in proportion,
straight back, straight legs, good teeth. My husband calls him
"compact". He is named after my husband's brother, Daryl, who died
this summer.

Third Annual Labor Day Weekend Donkey Spectacular. I was very nervous
leaving, with a baby due. Hubby was home donkey-sitting. First time mom,
H. R. Sabrina, delivered this beautiful baby all by herself. Misty wants
to be a very friendly baby, and mom just keeps pushing her around.
Usually toward us. She would come by herself, if mom would just give her
a break. We have had to take Misty in another pasture in order to spend
time with her without her mom pushing her.... Misty is correct in every
